JM Mahjong was founded with the mission of reshaping the odds of winning in traditional Mahjong tournaments.
In traditional Mahjong tournaments, the winning rate is typically only 4–10% for participants. On average, it can take about 40 tournaments just to place in the top 10 of a 200-player event—and even then, finishing 9th or 10th often comes with a disappointing prize amount.
The odds of winning are influenced by both skill and luck
In Mahjong tournaments, both skill and luck play significant roles, though skill tends to dominate over the long term. While luck can strongly influence individual hands or games, a higher winning rate ultimately reduces its impact.
While luck plays a role in tile distribution, skilled players can leverage their knowledge of strategy and hand development to mitigate the effects of unfavorable draws and maximize their chances of winning.
Why Skill Over Luck?
Luck—particularly in tile draws—certainly plays a role. But players find the game far more enjoyable when their skills shape the outcome through strategic decision-making, opponent analysis, and adaptability. When skill takes the lead, Mahjong becomes both more competitive and more fun.
